IPC Media

IPC Media is a leading UK consumer publisher of magazines and websites, encompassing well known brands like Woman, Marie Claire, Ideal Home, Country Life and Nuts.

As the owner & main occupier of the multi award winning Blue Fin Building in London, IPC Media recognised the need for a professional and flexible visitor management solution for its multi-tenanted property,  which would prove flexible for existing processes; help ensure optimum security levels are maintained at all times; and promote a positive first impression.

IPC Media approached Kalamazoo to provide a bespoke visitor management solution which would incorporate its existing turnstile operation and streamline the reception process.

The solution

The system proposed by Kalamazoo integrates the whole visitor control process, from the electronic visitor management system (VisitorNet MT) using an SQL database, web cameras, handheld wireless scanning units and the existing manned security turnstiles.

The visitor is booked in via the main reception using the VisitorNet MT solution. Multiple front desks allow large volumes of visitors, approximately 1050+ per week, to be processed quickly and easily using concurrent user licenses. Each visitor is given a visitor badge, incorporating a photograph of the visitor, visitor details, host details, building logo, site instructions and barcode.

At this stage the visitor information is stored on the database, however they do not have security clearance. The visitor is required to pass through the main reception and into the main building via the manned turnstile. A security guard scans the pass using a wireless handheld scanner and automatically checks the authenticity of the pass. Providing the pass is authentic the visitor can gain access to the building. The scanning and authentication process takes less than a second to scan the pass and authenticate validity

The result

The VisitorNet MT solution is designed specifically for multi-tenanted buildings and enables IPC Media to effectively manage guests for any of the seven organisations within the Blue Fin building.

Kalamazoo continues to maintain a strong working relationship with IPC Media and further development is firmly in the pipeline. Tony Floyde, Facilities Manager for IPC Media, explains “With further development of the wireless readers and integration into the existing turnstiles, Kalamazoo will provide us with a fully automated solution for activating any of  the turnstiles once the authentication process has been completed. This will help us to further streamline the process whilst maintaining the high security levels at all times.”  He concludes “Kalamazoo have proven to be an innovative, professional and reliable partner and we will continue to leave our requirements in thier capable hands for the foreseeable future.”
